Route and Itinerary
Day 1: Cape Town to Sanddrif
250 km. Our first day's ride heads North East through Wellington and Bain's Kloof pass to Ceres and then north through the remote Kouebokkeveld arriving at our first night's stop at Sanddrif. We get to enjoy two spectacular mountain passes and the beauty of the southern Cederberg.
Day 2: Sanddrif to Papkuilsfontein
210 km. We continue north through the Cederberg mountain range towards Clanwilliam and then into the Northern Cape towards Nieuwoudville and Papkuilsfontein. Our ride takes us through the spectacular Northern Cederberg where we again have a choice of routes (gentle tarmac to challenging gravel) and mountain passes. At our destination options include visiting a huge Quiver Tree Forest, the Waterfall Reserve on the road to Loeriesfontein, or the Wild Flower Reserve with the typical Dolorite "koppies" setting a beautiful background. The Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve is also an option to explore. In the evening you can sign up for a star gazing session at a local house in Nieuwoudtville. Our nights accommodation is in the comfortable stone cottages at Papkuilsfontein Guest Farm.
Day 3: Papkuilsfontein to Jakkalsdans Guest Farm
175 km. A shorter ride today as we head east into the wide open Karoo. Our overnight stop is at Jakkalsdans Guest Farm 50km North West of Sutherland. Activities here include hiking, river fishing, bird watching and stargazing in one of the best night sky areas in South Africa.
Day 4: Jakkalsdans to Cape Town
420 km. Today we get to explore more of the Karoo as our ride back home takes us through the Tankwa Karoo National Park and South West towards Ceres and home. A longer ride is broken up by three mountain passes that provide stunning views of the area and great riding.
