Trip Details

Experience some of Southern Africa’s most iconic spots: Victoria Falls, the Okavango River and the wildlife of the Delta, the wide open desert landscapes of Namibia and the Skeleton Coast, the majestic Richtersveld and Cape Town on this epic motorcycle tour.

Accommodation

Accommodation includes comfortable 3 and 4 star lodges (usually twin rooms) and campsites equipped with hot water and electricity.

Itinerary

Day 0: Arrive in Victoria Falls – Zimbabwe, settle in and enjoy the Zambezi river and surroundings.

Day 1: Victoria Falls: 0 km. Today we explore the falls, getting a full sense of this natural wonder of the world by foot on the Zimbabwe side – and the Zambia side too if you like. You can also take a helicopter ride for an unforgettable aerial view

Day 2: Vic Falls to Katima Mulilo: 205km. We catch a lift in the support vehicle into Botswana and Namibia, crossing through Chobe game reserve to where the bikes are in Katima Mulilo, Namibia.

Day 3: A rest and orientation day in Katima Mulilo: 0 km. Today we get a chance to catch up on the local time zone and take a short orientation ride on the bikes. There’s also the chance to experience the culture of a local village, go fishing on the lake or just take in the views from the lodge.

Day 4: Katima Mulilo to Drotskys Cabins: 380 km. We ride through the historic Caprivi strip keeping a lookout for elephants and other game and cross into Botswana before heading south. We stay overnight on the banks of the Okavango river at Drotskys Cabins.

Day 5: Rest day at Drotsky’s: 0 km. Another chance to rest and explore the Okavango river with it’s rich bird and animal life, the chance to fish for Tiger Fish or just enjoy the relaxed setting on the banks of the river.

Day 6: Drotskys Cabins to Maun: 340 km. We head back into Botswana and down the west of the Delta to Maun – base for exploring the wildlife in the Delta.

Day 7 and 8: Okavango Delta: 0 km. There are a number of ways to experience the landscapes and wildlife of the Okavango Delta, e.g. two-night Mokoro trips or a stay in one of the Delta camps. We’ll arrange this to suit the preferences of the group.

Day 9: Maun to Dqae Qare: 280 km. We ride west to one of our favourite stops – the San/Bushman community in the northern Kalahari. We’ll have time for a guided bush walk and take in traditional San fireside stories and dancing.

Day 10: Dqae Qare to Gobabis: 350 km. We continue our journey west towards the Namibian coast stopping in at a lodge near Gobabis.

Day 11: Gobabis to Erindi Private Game reserve: 380 km. We ride west through the Namibian capital Windhoek and on to Erindi game reserve.

Day 12Rest day at Erindi: 0 km. A day to rest from the riding and take in the magnificent wildlife in the park on morning and evening game drives.

Day 13: Erindi to Spitzkoppe: 200 km. A shorter ride through the Namib desert to the iconic group of Inselbergs (rocky outcrops) at Spitzkoppe

Day 14: Spitzkoppe to Swakopmund: 155 km. After a morning exploring the Spitzkoppe we set out on another shorter ride through the desert to the coastal resort town of Swakopmund.

Day 15: Swakopmund to Sossusvlei: 340 km. Today we tackle the gravel roads as they cross the incredible desert landscapes of the Namib desert and head south to the dunes at Sossusvlei

Day 16: Sesriem and Sossusvlei: 0 km. Rest day exploring the world famous dunes at Sossusvlei.

Day 17 and 18: Sossusvlei to Aus: 340 km. Another day of Namibian gravel roads as we head south to Aus for two nights and a rest day exploring the ghost town at Kolmanskop.

Day 19: Aus to Fish River Canyon. We continue south through Namibian big-sky country to the Fish River Canyon.

Day 20: Fish River to Orange River. Today we ride along the canyon to the banks of the Orange River in the remote Richtersveld.

Day 21: Rest day at the Orange River. We’ll get the chance to soak in the beauty of the Richtersveld on the banks of the Orange River. There’s also the chance to go on a 3-4 hour canoe trip.

Day 22: Orange River to Papkuilsfontein. Today we cross into South Africa and head south through the northern Cape to one of our favourite farms in the Karoo. August is flower season and we’ll be able to see the magnificent blooming of Namaqualand flowers along the way.

Day 23: Papkuilsfontein to Cederberg. We ride through some wonderfully remote gravel roads into the wild Cederberg mountains – a great place to spend our last night on the tour.

Day 24: Cederberg to Cape Town. We get to enjoy four mountain passes as we ride through the Cape fold mountains into Cape Town.
